Most of the stuff in my sketchbooks are scribbles for ideas and inspirations, but quite often I’ll find something will start as a doodle or a rough sketch, then evolve into a 'proper' drawing! This was based on a photo and some sketches from a recent Colchester Zoo visit. I used Windsor and Newton Indian … Continue reading Doodling with a dip pen…
Following my recent visits to Suffolk Owl Sanctuary, I have a variety of great photos and sketches of birds and mammals - lots of inspiration! When I first started photography, my aim was simply to take my own art reference photos to work from. This means that, as well as focussing on high quality images … Continue reading Raven
Towards the end of 2017 I was surprised and happy to find I'd won first prize in a local owl sanctuary's annual photography competition (Blog Post: Photo Competition Success). I’ve had a great week for finishing creative projects, and I am especially pleased to have completed this one! I started this pyrography quite a while ago, and have worked on it around a variety of other projects.

I used a … Continue reading Birkett the Great Horned Owl in Pastels

Another visit to Suffolk Owl Sanctuary, this time with my sister and friend, to celebrate her birthday with a Meerkat Experience. This encounter involved getting up very close with a mob of meerkats in their enclosure - some even climbed on top of us! As I joined Alison for the experience, Jon took photos from … Continue reading Meerkat Encounter at Suffolk Owl Sanctuary
Making the most of the very rare opportunity of a sunny and mild Bank Holiday Monday, I visited Suffolk Owl Sanctuary for the first time this year. As I had already visited the Sanctuary a couple of times last year, I had an idea of what birds they had, and where they flew them. This … Continue reading Suffolk Owl Sanctuary
