Last weekend I took my sister to Colchester Zoo, having given her my old Samsung GX-1L DSLR camera: what better place to test out a camera?! We spent quite a lot of time photographing various animals and dodging heavy rain showers - thankfully there are plenty of undercover places to shelter! It also gave me … Continue reading Colchester Zoo
Last year I had my first attempt at photographing wild hares in Norfolk. After a day of driving around the countryside roads with my friend, eventually finding and photographing a few hares frolicking in a field near Hunstanton provided me with a real sense of achievment! Working with my old Samsung DSLR camera, and a … Continue reading Wild Hares in Norfolk
Making the most of the very rare opportunity of a sunny and mild Bank Holiday Monday, I visited Suffolk Owl Sanctuary for the first time this year. As I had already visited the Sanctuary a couple of times last year, I had an idea of what birds they had, and where they flew them. This … Continue reading Suffolk Owl Sanctuary
I had the chance to try out my photography skills in a very different setting earlier this month, when a colleague within the university requested my help in taking some photos for an event that was being run during 'Do Something Different Week' in Febuary. 'The Art and Science of Murder' was a murder mystery … Continue reading Impromptu Photoshoot at UEA
I had a few opportunities to get out and about with my camera over the Christmas period, including another photographic wander with a local group, and a few photos of Winter Solstice, which have been included in a separate post.
I celebrated Yule with my housemate by observing Winter Solstice this year, and of course took a range of photographs to document the occasion. Later in the evening, Jon observed a ritual, which he was happy for me to photograph!
Since recently upgrading my camera, I have looked more at learning how to get the best from my kit and learning some of the more technical specifications and functions that are involved in photography... As part of this I attended a 'Getting Started With Your DSLR' workshop at my local camera showroom. As someone who … Continue reading Back to Basics…getting to know my camera…
Halloween Pumpkin Carving Unfortunately due to a busy couple of weeks with other commitments, I have not made as much progress with the owl pyrography as I would have liked...though I did find the time this evening to join my housemate in some Hallowe'en pumpkin carving! I carved an owl into mine, while Jon carved … Continue reading Hallowe’en and Owl Pyrography…
Suffolk Owl Sanctuary I visited Suffolk Owl Sanctuary again this month, with the aim of getting a few more photos for my portfolio and generally for inspiration - this time I was focussing more on the vibrant autumnal colours. This time I took my Samsung Gx-1L, and a Nikon D7000 along with me - and … Continue reading More Owls, Squirrels and Meerkats…
Finally got around to uploading a few pictures from a visit to Dartmoor Zoo in August... These were again taken with my Samsung Gx-1L. The zoo itself was a lovely place to wander around, even though it very much looked like a work in progress, with quite a lot of enclosures and features under development. … Continue reading Dartmoor Zoo
