These were actually taken the day after Winter Solstice, but the moon was still full and the sky was actually clear enough to see it! I then looked to the Christmas lights around Ipswich's Waterfront for inspiration:
This weekend I went for another seaside walk with my camera and sketchbook, this time to Mundesley in North Norfolk. It was a cold and overcast day, with intermittent rain - not the best for photography! Waves crashing onto the beach. © C L Grasby, 2018. View along the beach. © C L Grasby, 2018. This weekend I visited Southwold Pier to take some photos - seaside spots like this are great as the weather gets colder, as it is generally quite quiet and great for some creative reflections... The nights have been drawing in earlier but have brought with them some amazing sunsets. These were both taken in the last week, on separate occasions.
At the weekend I joined some friends to do some winter boat maintenance in Brightlingsea, Essex. It's been a few years since I last visited the area, and I was surprised at how much it had changed (or that I'd forgotten!). I had a couple of opportunities to pop out with my camera, and although … Continue reading High Tide at Brightlingsea
Last Wednesday I went out on the water with my local sailing group for the first time this season, and brought my camera along to get a few photos. After a dismal and overcast start to the evening, the skies cleared for a beautiful sunset over the Broads. I took the opportunity to dust off … Continue reading Oulton Broad, Wayfarer Sailing
Earlier this month most of the UK was treated to a late winter snow fall. Nicknamed the 'Beast from the East', the icy winds and thick blanket of snow caused havoc on Britain’s roads. I braved the freezing temperatures for a walk up to Mousehold Heath in Norwich, which looked very picturesque in the late … Continue reading Snow!
Following my recent success using Pastelmat for the first time, I thought I'd try another type of paper. This time I used velour pastel paper, which was a completely different experience! I started this in a workshop that was themed around landscapes - and I think the reference photo I chose to work from was … Continue reading Landscape Pastel Painting
My main focus for this pastel painting was the vibrant colours in the sunset - I wanted the reflected light in the scene to stand out more than the location itself, so only included a limited amount of detail. I worked from a reference photo I'd taken a few years ago in Oulton Broad on … Continue reading Broads Sunset
I took the following photos in July at various locations on the North Norfolk coast, but have only this week downloaded them from my camera to my computer! At Cromer, I focused mainly on trying to capture a range of different images, including landscape and portrait shots. My main focus was the area just around … Continue reading North Norfolk, Coastal Scenes
