This has taken me a few days, as I kept picking it up and putting it down again, but I finished my line drawing of a bear that I started earlier this week... I do love drawing with pen, though it does take some getting used to, as the lines can sometimes appear very harsh … Continue reading Bear, Pen Drawing
Fox, Derwent Graphik Line Maker 1.0 on unbranded cartridge paper. This started as a doodle, but I got carried away and really quite like the finished picture! Reference photo my own, taken in 2016.
I started a new 365 day challenge on the 1st November (see post: 365 Days of Art!), and although I started well, I seem to have fallen quite a few days behind! Despite that, I am enjoying the challenge and am planning to continue, with the aim of ending up with a total of 365 images. … Continue reading A selection of pen sketches…
Needing a bit of inspiration, I walked around Oulton Broad's Nicholas Everitt Park at the weekend with an idea of taking a few landscape photos of the autumn leaves and ice. As the sky clouded over, and the light faded, I found myself focusing instead on a group of squirrels that were congregating around a … Continue reading Squirrels!
Felt randomly inspired after sorting through my photos from Banham Zoo (See: Leopard Cubs at Banham Zoo), so I did a little sketch of a leopard cub with a ball point pen! I do enjoy sketching in Biro - sometimes the simplest tools are the best!
I visited Banham Zoo in Norfolk at the weekend, hoping to be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of their latest arrivals: a pair of Sri Lankan Leopard cubs that were born at the zoo earlier this month (information at: http://www.banhamzoo.co.uk/endangered-leopards-born-at-banham-zoo/). As they were so tiny, they have mostly been staying indoors in the warm, … Continue reading Leopard Cubs at Banham Zoo
I've taken numerous photos of this particular owl at Suffolk Owl Sanctuary over the past couple of years - he is such a character! One of these photos, taken earlier this year, is the reference for my latest pastel drawing that I started last weekend at a workshop, and finished last night. I used a … Continue reading Birkett the Great Horned Owl in Pastels
I created this using a mix of conté crayons and soft pastels on 10x12" black sugar paper. Although this has been drawn on black sugar paper, I have blended a layer of black pastel in the background which I hope will protect the paper against fading. This started as a sketch for a bit of fun, but I ended up rediscovering the joy of drawing with a simple ball point pen! Reference photo © C L Grasby, taken at Suffolk Owl Sanctuary in 2016.
I started this portrait of a red panda at a workshop in North Walsham. I enjoy attending workshops where I can, as it's a lovely way to meet other artists and socialise with a coffee while being creative! I worked from my own reference photo, that I'd taken at Colchester Zoo earlier this year. … Continue reading Red Panda, Pastels
